Aave Introduces Equities Hub for Tokenized Stocks, Enabling USDC Loans with Apple and Nvidia

Aave has unveiled its Equities Hub on the Base platform, allowing eligible users to utilize tokenized U.S. stocks as collateral for USDC loans. The launch supports seven stocks—Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla. These tokenized equities, which are collateral-only at this stage, leverage Chainlink data for pricing. This move marks a significant integration of tokenized stocks within DeFi, as it allows for traditional borrowing mechanisms on-chain. Users can deposit their tokenized equity assets, drawn from Coinbase-issued securities backed by real underlying shares held at Alpaca Securities, to secure liquidity in USDC. However, the initial structure prohibits borrowing against equity or creating stock-against-stock positions, streamlining the process to focus on simple collateralized loans. Currently, only non-U.S. users in approved jurisdictions can access this service, as U.S. retail investors are excluded for regulatory reasons. Aave's latest advancement illustrates the evolving role of tokenized assets in decentralized finance.
