Disney Board Nears Decision on Parks Chief D’Amaro as Next CEO
According to sources familiar with the situation, the Walt Disney Co. board is leaning towards promoting Josh D’Amaro, the chairman of the theme-park division, to the position of chief executive officer, with a vote anticipated in the coming week. At 54, D’Amaro has successfully led the division that generates the majority of Disney’s profits since 2020. If appointed, he will take over from Bob Iger, who helmed the entertainment giant from 2005 to 2020 and returned as CEO in 2022. While the board's decision remains pending, a Disney spokesperson stated, 'The board has not yet selected the next CEO of the Walt Disney Co. and once that decision is made, we will announce it.' This appointment comes at the conclusion of a three-year CEO search led by Disney Chairman James Gorman. The competition for the top position heated up after Iger's return, following a challenging tenure by his chosen successor, Bob Chapek. D’Amaro, who joined Disney in 1998 after a stint at Gillette, has advanced through the ranks of the company’s parks division, overseeing significant investments, including a $60 billion expansion of Disney’s resorts and a $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games. Disney plans to announce its fiscal first-quarter earnings on Monday and has indicated it will name a long-term successor around early 2026, with its annual shareholder meeting slated for March 18.
